Sisters

Thirteen-year-old Sveta dreams of joining the army as a sniper, while her spoiled younger sister Dina has always lived under the protection of her gangster father. When their father’s enemies come after them, the two girls are forced to run, leaving behind everything they know. On the road together, they clash, bond, and discover that survival means relying on each other in ways they never imagined.

Sisters was the directorial debut of Sergei Bodrov Jr., who was already well known as an actor for his role in the cult films Brother and Brother 2. It became his only film as a director.

Non-professional child actresses Oksana Akinshina (Sveta) and Katya Gorina (Dina) were chosen for the lead roles, and their natural performances earned critical praise.

Oksana Akinshina, just 13 years old during filming, later became an acclaimed actress and appeared in international films like Lilya 4-ever (2002) and The Bourne Supremacy (2004).

Tragically, Bodrov Jr. never made another film; he died in 2002 in a glacier disaster in the Caucasus Mountains while working on his next project, The Messenger. Sisters is often remembered as his lasting creative legacy.
