To the Last Limit

A former boxer and ex-convict, Viktor Dremov, struggles to turn his back on crime and rebuild a normal life, only to find the world closing in on him from all sides. His old flame is marrying a wealthy antiquarian, petty gangsters strip him of his car and hound him relentlessly, and the law offers no protection. Pushed to the edge and framed for crimes he didn’t commit, Viktor realizes that survival means fighting back with the only weapon he still has—his fists—before fate leaves him shattered or dead.

The film features the music of Igor Talkov, one of Russia’s most iconic rock singers of the late Soviet era, whose songs added a haunting layer to the story’s atmosphere.

Talkov’s presence in the soundtrack became especially poignant because the movie was released the same year he was tragically killed in 1991, turning his music into a symbol of a lost era.

Unlike many action films of the period, it portrayed the criminal underworld with a gritty realism, reflecting the chaos and uncertainty of early post-Soviet life.

To the Last Limit offered one of the earliest strong screen roles for Aleksandr Baluev, who would go on to become one of Russia’s most recognizable film actors.
