Philipp Yuryev

Biography
Philipp Yuryev (Russian: Филипп Юрьев; born 15 January 1990) is a Russian filmmaker. He graduated from the "VGIK" (Russian State University of Cinematography) directing department in 2011.
His first student film, THE MORNING WITH DIFFERENT EYES (2008), won several prizes at international film festivals, including São Paolo IFF and Abu Dhabi IFF, as well as Montreal and InterFilm Berlin. His next short film, THE MODIFIED LANDSCAPE (2009), was shown at CineGlobe IFF (Geneva) and received a special mention and special jury prize for best cinematography at the Saint Anna student film festival in Moscow. His thesis film, THE SONG OF THE MECHANICAL FISH (2012), was selected for the short film competition program at Sundance and Clermont-Ferrand, and received the Special Jury Prize at Rio de Janeiro IFF and at Message To Man IFF in St. Petersburg. His feature directorial debut THE WHALER BOY (2020) premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the top prize in "Venice Days" program.
