Be My Husband

A single mother arrives at a Black Sea resort with her young son but can’t find a place to stay—landlords refuse to rent to women with children. Spotting a modest pediatrician vacationing alone, she convinces him to pretend to be her husband so they can secure a room. What begins as a practical arrangement quickly turns into a web of humorous deceptions, nosy neighbors, and emotional surprises, as the two strangers are forced to play the perfect couple under the curious eyes of everyone around them.

The film features Andrei Mironov, one of the most beloved Soviet actors, in one of his more understated comedic roles. His chemistry with Elena Proklova, who plays the resourceful young mother, gave the film its charm and romantic spark.

Much of the film was shot in the real resort town of Yalta on the Crimean coast, giving the movie its authentic beach atmosphere and leisurely pace.

Alla Surikova was one of the few prominent female directors in Soviet cinema at the time. Her success with Be My Husband helped solidify her career and opened doors for future female filmmakers.
